Frequently Asked Questions

Wedding photographers serving the Pittsburgh region and beyond

A bride being photographed on their wedding day by Derek of Chase Images.
How long have you been doing this?

I've been a photographer for 15 years, and have been photographing weddings full-time as owner of Chase Images for the last 13 years. I’ve photographed over 300 weddings in my career.

How would you describe your style?

My approach is relaxed and fun! I want to help tell your story with a mix of both candid and posed moments. I edit wedding photos in a straight forward, classic style to ensure your photos look timeless.

Do you recommend an engagement session?

Absolutely! Engagement sessions are a great way to become familiar with how I work and it gives me an opportunity to get to know you better. Couples that have done engagement sessions are typically more comfortable and know what to expect by the time the wedding arrives.

Do you work alone, or do you have assistant photographers?

Yes, I have 3 other assistant photographers that I’ve been working with for years. We’ve photographed countless weddings together and they each have a similar style to my own to ensure consistency.

What happens if it rains on my wedding day?

Some of my absolute favorite weddings have taken place on rainy or snowy days! Being based in Pittsburgh, I can pretty much count on rain for at least a few weddings every year, therefore I always have a backup plan in mind. Before your wedding day, I identify multiple locations for your photos, both outside and inside, and have umbrellas on hand to protect us from any inclement weather. The most important thing is to not stress if it rains. Embrace it, and know that you will get beautiful photos regardless of the weather!

Do you have backup equipment?

One of the most important requirements of being a wedding photographer is to have backup equipment. I always have several spare camera bodies, lenses, flashes, batteries, and memory cards on hand.

How will I know my photos are safe?

As soon as the wedding has concluded, I upload the photos onto 2 different hard drives as well as an online backup to ensure there are multiple copies.

What if you are sick or can’t make it to my wedding?

I’ve never missed a wedding and I don’t plan on it! However, if I am physically unable to attend your wedding, I will appoint my team of photographers to cover my responsibilities. You will never be without photographers on your big day!

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Many venues now require photographers to have liability insurance. I’m happy to send the required documents if needed.

Do you travel for weddings?

For sure! I’ve photographed weddings in Philly, Maryland and Washington D.C. Additional travel and accommodation fees may apply.

How do you prepare for a wedding?

I will go over your individual timeline, family formals list and any other concerns you may have before the wedding. If it is a venue I am not familiar with, I like do a pre-wedding scouting trip to ensure we use the best locations for photos.

How long until I receive my photos?

I believe in sending you the edited photos in the most timely manner possible. It will take approximately 6-8 weeks, depending upon my current wedding schedule, to complete and send your photos. I will post several 'sneak peeks' on social media in the meantime for you to enjoy.

Will I have print rights?

Yes. Your photos will be sent to you on a USB drive if you choose to print on your own. You also have the option to purchase professional prints directly from your online gallery.

Why do I need an album?

Digital photos are fast and convenient to share online, but can sometimes be forgotten over time. Picking up an album, and reliving the memories through the printed photos is an entirely different experience. An album will ensure that you and your family, as well as future generations, can enjoy your wedding photos for years to come.

Do you recommend unplugged weddings?

An unplugged wedding is essentially when your guests put away their cell phones, iPads, electronic devices during your ceremony. This can help your guests better enjoy the event, and be present in the moment. It also allows the photographers you've hired to capture the best photos possible. Your guests are welcome to use personal phones/cameras during the reception but rest assured, Chase Images will be capturing all of these moments and more for you!

Have you photographed LGBTQ+ weddings?

Yes, absolutely! Love is love!

Ok, we’re ready to book! How much?

If you’d like to book your wedding with Chase Images, a $1,000 retainer is due to secure your date. The remaining payment is due 2 weeks before the wedding. You can view more information about pricing here, or contact me if you're ready to get started. We can’t wait to work with you!
